UK Records Nearly 50,000 COVID Cases October 20, 2021 The UK recorded 49,156 cases on Monday – the highest figure seen since the end of the lockdown. Cases have been steadily rising over the past few weeks, but Prime Minister Boris Johnson is not looking at reimposing any restrictions yet. High rates of COVID-19 amongst schoolchildren are playing a driving factor in the outbreak. In response to the high numbers, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman has said that, “We always knew the coming months would be challenging,” and “The vaccination programme will continue to be our first line of defence, along with new treatments, testing and public health advice. But we will obviously keep a close watch on cases.”
