How To Overcome Sleep Anxiety

June 5, 2021

Many people who experience anxiety also have trouble falling asleep at night, commonly referred to as sleep anxiety. Often, this leads to a sleep disorder known as insomnia, particularly in females.

When suffering from sleep anxiety, you may feel exhausted but still find yourself unable to sleep. The most common causes of sleep anxiety for women include menopause and perimenopause, diet, sleep disorders, stress and anxiety. Symptoms may include heart palpitations, shortness of breath, racing thoughts, sweating, nausea, restlessness and difficulty staying asleep as well as falling asleep.

Thankfully, there is a range of treatment options for sleep anxiety, depending on the root cause. For perimenopause, hormonal treatments may be prescribed. For diet, supplements and reducing caffeine can help. However, for all people suffering from sleep issues, developing good sleep hygiene is key.
