Australian Data Reveal How Well Vaccines Protect You From COVID-19

In a recent interview, Health Minister Greg Hunt has revealed data showing how effectively vaccinated Australians are protected against COVID-19. Currently, COVID-19 has a mortality rate of 1.06% in Australia, but the risk of hospitalisation for fully vaccinated people is ‘almost nothing’ according to Mr Hunt.

A case study in NSW and ACT of 47,000 COVID-19 cases (aged 16-65) showed that only 4% of cases were fully vaccinated. Furthermore, only 1% of the cases who died in the study were fully vaccinated. Current ICU data reveals a similar trend. In the first 11 weeks of NSW’s most recent outbreak, less than 2% of people admitted to ICU for COVID-19 were fully vaccinated.
