Are There Risks Of Mingling With Unvaccinated People? October 11, 2021 As NSW celebrates ‘Freedom Day’, vaccinated people are out enjoying a whole range of activities they haven’t been able to do in 4 months. As a result of this, there will be more mingling between vaccinated and unvaccinated people in public transport, streets, schools and more. Does this pose a risk? According to Professor of Population Health Jaya Dantas, yes. “There will be breakthrough infections among those who are vaccinated if they mingle with the unvaccinated.” Vaccination helps prevent getting COVID-19, spreading COVID-19, and most of all getting seriously ill due to COVID-19. Within unvaccinated communities, COVID-19 can spread much easier and so there is a risk breakthrough infections can then occur in vaccinated people. To help combat this, it’s important that we keep up with COVID safe measures – wearing masks, social distancing, and having gatherings outside if possible. These measures will still be important even when the country opens up more fully.
